Livinwondr is proud to welcome the participation of Mr. Nguyen Van Thong, one of three photographers to have taken photos of Thich Quang Duc’s self-immolation in 1963 in Saigon in protest of the South Vietnamese government persecution of Buddhists under the leadership of Ngo Dinh Diem. Mr. Thong shares with us his memory of the eventful day, as well as his journey to become an award-winning photographer from humble beginnings. He has spent a lifetime producing iconic images that illustrate Vietnam’s history from the 1950s to the present day. Here he chooses to share with us four photographs, giving us a rare glimpse into his impressive career and experiences that encompass 60 years of work.
